Looking to start designing jewelry and start my own business any pointers?

Hello all,

I am new here. I actually found this site by doing another project for Miles Of Marketing. I am very interested in making jewelry and selling my work. I have made about 20 pieces and have tried selling on a couple of different jewelry shopping carts and am kind of wanting to stay away from Etsy due to the cost. I don't really have funds for my start up so looking for the easiest and cheapest way to get my feet on the floor and ready to run. Any pointers from you ladies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

Nan

First and foremost, set up a website showcasing your work, then use the Buddy System.  Find someone who is making or selling something that compliments what you are doing.  Split a table with that person at Craft events and expos.  Have business cards readily available for those who are just browsing and will want to check out your website periodically to see what is new.  If you are able, donate a piece to a charitable event for a raffle, send a stack of your business cards for those who bid but didn't win.  My neice is starting up her own jewelry business and these are some of the successful steps she has used to get her name and her product out there. She has also had friends and family wear her pieces to drum up interest, when someone inquires about the piece, the wearer gives them a card with the web address.  Best of Luck!!!!!
