When you are tired after work how do you engage your children while you calm down and relax?

Recently, I worked with a mom exec who after long hours said she needed ways to engage her children and still get a moment of peace herself. Since she liked to cook, we made an art cabinet in her kitchen so she could cook and her kids could be near making crafts and doing art.

What do you all do with your children when you are still revved up from a long day of work?

In our home we have been watching Dancing with the Stars as a wind-down after a long day of sports and work. Looking forward to your ideas.

After being in the O.R. all day I don't really want to talk to anyone. When we would get home It would be "down time". She would get to have a snack and watch cartoons and I would grab a drink (soda, juice, water, I don't drink alcohol), and sit on my front porch and just breathe. The whole process is about 1/2 an hour. She was more receptive to doing homework and I would get dinner started while helping her with her homework.
My mother/daughter time is spent watching ...Real Housewives of NYC, NJ and Atlanta. It was actually my daughter's obsession with the Real Housewives that led me to contact Jill Zarin (featured this month on Butterfly) and Dina Manzo.

Since I have nothing left to give when I finally arrive home from work (sometimes later than 8pm), I truly enjoy relaxing in front of the tube. By the way, once American Idol starts up, this becomes a true "Family Affair."
