Greetings All -
Aside from using this site and other social media outlets, I would like to see how you all network your businesses. I am always looking for creative, unique and affordable ways to get the word out about my business and would like to open a discussion so we can swap/share ideas!?
What avenues have you used? What works, what doesn't? Thanks so much and I'll look forward to your posts.
Best wishes for a prosperous day,
Marcia Griffith

Twitter but so far it hasn't brought in business but people asking questions. But questions are good it can lead to something hopefully. I offer clients incentives for bringing me business. The more I can get them to work for me the easier it is for me to get the word out. I have yet to start a blog. I need to I really do. It's just the time factor. I also run a nationally based swim lesson program so I need balance.
How do you network?

I use the traditional free classifieds but since January I have been using Buzz-Zing. Its a free social media course that can generate leads. I generate between 10-15 leads a day. I use to use flyers and bandit signs but they don't seem to work as good anymore. I use to pay for newspaper ads but the same as flyers, don't seem to work as good.
Word of mouth is great, I work in cafes of a morning, people ask me what I do and that starts a conversation, my passion is talking to people so I don't find it intimidating to do this type of advertising.
I also use blogs, but anything free I'll give it a go.
Have a great week

Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely going to look into that - appreciate the info. Love it - 'free' is good! :0) There is so much technology out there that I think that choosing the right vehicle, and process, is half the battle to reach a wide audience. Technology-wise I use Facebook and LinkedIn.
I'm in a word-of-mouth business and believe people, in this face paced world we're living in, are really looking for face-to-face contact. I belong to a number of local groups and could be out networking 24/7 if I wanted to! I spend an incredible amount of time developing relationships and its paid off w/a solid base of both customers and business partners. Generally speaking, I'm a think-outside-the-box person and willing to reach beyond my comfort zone to reach people. I'm like you.. I'll give anything a try and see if I can make it work for me.
Best to you,
Marcia
Looking forward to hearing what others are doing too...

Permalink Reply by Brandi Roberts on March 15, 2011 at 1:00am @Terri - can you explain BuzzZing better to us. I am curious.
I have used Facebook, my local paper (with no luck) and some craigslist ads. word of mouth always seems to work best - when I am confident in the presentation - otherwise i can ruin the whole relationship!
Permalink Reply by Terrie Handley on March 15, 2011 at 5:38pm Hi Marcia, just clicked on the link and it worked fine.
Brandi, the BuzzZing is a free 10 module video with a checklist that teaches you have to generate leads from social media. I have now been using it since about xmas and can now generate 8-12 free leads per day. Terrie
Permalink Reply by Scarlet Paolicchi on March 21, 2011 at 8:59pm I use all forms of social media available!
Facebook and Twitter generate major traffic for me along with my blog.
I network in as many places as I can. Just getting your link out there creates traffic and contributes to increasing your search engine ranking.
Here is a link to 10 social networks that let you create a profile with links:

Nice to meet you ladies,

I always follow back on twitter!

I appreciate the feedback. I do alot on LinkedIn and Facebook. Still working on venturing onto Twitter. I also do alot of face-to-face networking and have developed motivational/educational seminars for women-in-business that also helps give me exposure.
Even though social media is beyond HUGE, lots of folks are still looking for that personal contact and in my business that is a very important component of nurturing my business.
Print ads have been a waste of money, trade shows are great for accumulating contacts, and craigslist isn't a good platform for me.
I'll definitely look at your 10 networks... am familiar w/a few already but don't want to pass up a good opportunity to branch out!
Best,
Marcia
Greetings ladies! Lots of great golden nuggets being shared here. I primarily use Facebook to network and build relationships. I also have a blog and that allows me to share content with others of value to help further build those relationships. I use LinkedIn and I am active on Twitter but more on "auto-pilot" as my facebook fanpage and blog are linked to my Twitter account. I am also an administrator for several communities on Circle of Moms which is a great place to network with others but Facebook continues to be the focus of how I network.
I wrote a blog post about how to network on Facebook effectively
http://aprilwilliamsonline.com/facebook-marketing-101/
I have done paid ads in the past in newspapers and while it generated leads I did not find it effective because it did not generate quality leads. I have found that the majority of people that answer ads from newspapers and craigslist are looking for a quick buck and do not understand the network marketing industry.
I have found that good old fashioned networking and relationship building is the best way to build a business.
Cheers! ;-) April
Permalink Reply by Betty Osborn on July 11, 2011 at 10:33pm I have a business facebook, and a twitter page both for my business. Both of them are hooked up to my website. But I also network and blog on many other sites. I set up a blog page on my website, and when I create new blogs, I then promote them on my facebook and twitter. I believe in mixed media, even though I am on the internet, and in the fall and the winter, I do local shows, where I showcase my collages, and have a drawing for a giveaway collage too. The registrations are also a good way to build a mailing list. I am still learning as I go along, always willing to try new ideas.

Since I have a retail toy store and an online business. I get together on a quarterly basis with other business owners. We have a "Business Improvement Office" in Montclair and it gives us retailers plenty of support and resources. This site- Butterfly is great as well as Savor the Success and Ladies Who Launch, all are women networking sites and they meet in person a few times a year. I also am laser focus on my target audience and try to surround my self parents, and children either through community events, & school events. Advertisng has not proven to be give me a return so I rarely advertise. Tweeter, facebook and linkedin are great.
Looking forward to reading some more pearls.
Thank you
Sweetly-
Jeanette
