Yeah swim mom's!! I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of 9 and currently run a year round swim program through Swim America. I LOVE IT! It's so exciting and rewarding to help kids you start out as terrified in the water grow up and become swim team kids. My 7 yr old is taking lessons with Swim with Bill(the program I run) and he is having so much fun. He went from "mom I know how to swim I don't need to take lessons anymore" to "mom today is Monday it's my lesson, can I still borrow your swim cap and goggles, when am I moving up" He's even considering the swim team this summer. Being a top 3 final H.S. state meet swimmer and seeing my son love it, words can't describe.

Lisa...it may sound odd...but are you "swallowing" your breath..then letting it out in a measured, calm and even way? Often times people are breathing "shallow", causing the problem. I don't know the level you're swimming at, but you might try a streamline drill, breathing every third kick to start...then every 5th, then 7th. So as you get comfortable add two kicks to build your breath capacity. Be even paced with the breath exhalation...don't "dump" it all in one go. And you shld only be breathing in when you turn your head for your breath....breathing out while your face is in the water. Let me know how it goes. Breathing is a critical skill!

I love it Angie!! Hope "Mad Dog" gets into the pool every now and again..it's so helpful with building endurance and breath capacity...yes, even for football!

My oldest son did compeitive swiming and went to county with his beautiful butterfly stroke. He was a bit overweight but I tell you those years built up his upper boddie strength. He is now 6'3 and 240 of muscle that plays high school football. He plays defense and his nicknamed Mad dog by his teammates. lol I truly believe it was those two years of practice, meets and the last year he made county and placed.

So get your kids signed up for spring. Gets them in some places, outdoors and building up their confidence. While adding character for the later years.

How can you go wrong??

Hi Shawn,

I figured that all of the swimmeets I've been to, if not this year, allows me in this group! Nice win on the Net tickets.

Happy that i joined as I just became a member of the Hackensack Y to take advantage of their pool and swim team. Family swims on the weekends are fun and make us sleep well!
