Working Mother's Social Network | MyWorkButterfly

We all want to be there for our children when they get sick, absolutely! But children rarely get sick at a time that is... let's say... "convenient." When your child gets sick, do you take time off? Work from home? Find a sitter? As a workaholic mom, what's your strategy?

Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones.......I have a live-in Nanny.......couldn't juggle my two careers, kids, hubby and social calendars without her. She is a gem.

Will be interested in hearing from some of the others.
That is lucky! Every time one of our kids is sick, my husband and I discuss whose obligations are more pressing for the day before sorting out which of us will stay home. "Working from home" in this scenario doesn't quite describe the reality, since sick toddlers tend to want a lot of attention.

On rare occasions, our usual sitter can come on short notice. My mother lives nearby, but she's more of a visiting grandmother rather than a helping grandmother. Of course, the times either of these two can help, then I feel guilty that I'm not with my sick kid. Oy vey.
When I worked full time, we usually decided who had the most pressing schedule for the day or who had hte most sick days available and went from there. We did try and take turns. Now that I only work part time from home and can get my hours in whenever and am not confined to 8-5, it will most likely be me staying home.
Chck the local hospitals. Some of them have sick child care for working mothers. I used it on several occasions. It was a great perk when the hospital I was working with had it. I even had a pediatrician come down one day and tell me that she was runnning a fever so the nurse asked him to look at her. He wrote her a rx and had it filled for me while I was working. It's a great help. You usually have to register them the day before. They may not take kids that are terribly sick. I used to save all my sick days for when she was that sick.
Susan -- Interesting information about some hospitals. That's something I've never heard offered, but something I'll be exploring over the next few weeks! What a great option. Thank you!
