Hi Becky - This is Julie C. - Butterfly's Career Coach. I just found your question that you asked and wanted to get back to you. It's exciting to hear that you're searching for your 'ideal.' It's great to know what that looks like as you seek what is next for you. Regarding proposing to a potential employer specific hours, here are my thoughts:
-generally, I encourage people to get a position first, then negotiate special needs - like hours, additional vacation, alternate schedule, job sharing, etc. You're in a much better negotiating position after the interview process, when an offer is already made, and they know you and the value you provide to the organization. Just like salary requirements, the candidate usually does not bring that up until after the offer.
-With that said, if you can ONLY take a position with specific hours, putting that information up front will tell you if the organization is really interested in you and if it's an environment that is supportive to flexible work arrangements. There is risk in putting this info out before you get an interview. This is where having clear priorities is important. You need to know what you're willing to do and not do.
-A few things to consider - research the organizations before you decide how to approach. If they bill themselves as 'family-friendly' and/or have policies that support flexibility, bringing up the info beforehand may not have an impact. See if you can network within the organization and find out the 'real' life scoop on how the company handles these types of situations.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions - and how it goes. Best, Julie

Hi Becky,
Thanks for joining our community and for your feedback. I see you invited some mom friends in, so thanks for that. Feel free to participate in our Contest to win NJ Nets tix (maybe you have some friends/family in NY/NJ you can give them too) plus a signed autographed Net's Basketball.

Enjoy.
