Hi Danielle,
Wishing you all the best for a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY today.
Hope you are enjoying your day and that you've had a chance to reflect on the wonderful advice from Butterfly's resident career coach, Julie Cohen. If you're still unhappy in you job, search Butterfly's job board with over 10,000 openings or to check out the opportunities from THREE specific companies looking to recruit women in flex roles! Details on right of home page.
Best to you,

Hi Danielle - Thanks for your note and for sharing your story with me. I hear your frustration, dismay and sadness regarding your current work-life situation. You sound pretty clear that you don't want to continue working the way you are. And, you see your work situation as causing you to miss important parts of your children's lives. I'm sorry you're feeling stuck.

I hear some good stuff, too! It sounds like you and your husband are in a fairly secure financial situation, even though there is concern. I hear that you're willing to make changes to create a better work-life mix for yourself. Sounds like the problem/conflict arises in that you and your husband have different values and priorities around family, children and financial issues. It might serve you both to get clear on what you want - what are the priorities for your family. There seems to be some overlap - he wants your kids to be with other kids more, you want to have more time to nurture your kids. There might be some common ground there to get clear on - what does the ideal parenting/raising the kids scenario look like. Once you know that, you can then evaluate what changes might need to be addressed.

You may also want to check with the organization that you work for - are there any opportunities for less than full time work? I wonder if there are some creative ways to adjust your professional situation so it doesn't have to be 'all-or-nothing.' You raise a another important question - do you want to even be a full-time stay at home mom? I'd encourage you to get clear on your ideal work-life mix. If you had a magic wand and created the perfect scenario, what would it look like? Once you have an ideal, then you can overlay it with your reality - financial needs, resources, support you have, etc. Baby steps can give a big impact.

Let me know your thoughts and how else I can help.

Best,
Julie
