Hi Emi - Carol and I have been corresponding about what questions you need to ask before getting involved with a company to ensure its the right opportunity for you. There are some good blogs on this site that help guide you in your decision process. I see you're in Houston - my company is there this week doing launches throughout the area - everywhere from The Woodlands (I used to live there) to the Galleria. If you're interested in learning more about the choice I made, please let me know and I'll forward you more details. Best regards and all the best, Marcia

Hi Emi. No problem and once I find something decent I will let you know. I have to say I am learning so much from so many women on Butterfly and everyone has been so helpful. I'm sure that with the help of all these women you and I will be able to find our niche. Have a great day.

I just read Jenny's comment and she has very good advice. I heard that Arbonne is a very good company. And she is sooo right, don't ever let any one tell you that you can't do it. You can. It took me a very long time to realize that and now I'm on my way to prove everyone wrong and that I can do anything I put my mind to and succeed!

Hi Emi, mlm is multi level marketing. You join the business then you have other people join the business under you. Alot of people refer to them as pyramid scheme. Thats why I'm alittle worried. I do know people who do very well at this type of business. I just keep hearing bad things too. From what I heard is you have to be a real go getter. Alot of people get their friends and family into the business so that they can move up. I have realized that I am a great salesperson but I just don't hound people to buy things. So there's my dilema.

Thanks for sharing! I am in the Milwaukee area and am starting to figure out how to get my licensure hours once I am done in May. I finished my internship in August, am taking a Family class this fall, and my comps in spring. It's been quite an adventure!

Hello Emi,

Welcome to the site! (I read your post on the Single Mothers group.)

You mentioned that you hope to own your own business some day. What are you waiting for? ;) There are many direct sales companies out there that allow you to work from home around your family's schedule. If you are looking into doing a network marketing business, there are certain characteristics you should look for:

1. Consumable products. You want to look for products that people use every day and will need to buy over and over again.

2. Timing and trends. What sells in a recession? What are people most interested in right now? What are the current trends, and what type of business is going to grow the most in the next several years?

3. Time leveraging. This is why network marketing works to create wealth. You need a company that pays you for bringing new people in. If you work 10 hours a week, you get paid on 10 hours a week. If you have a team that works a total of 40 hours a week, then you should find a company that will pay you on those 40 hours, too. Even Donald Trump says that if he were starting all over again to build his wealth, he'd go the network marketing route.

I am an independent consultant with Arbonne, a Swiss-based skin care and wellness company. Feel free to check out my website for more information. I highly recommend Arbonne, as it meets the guidelines above, and I'd be happy to tell you more. Best of luck pursuing your dreams - don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do it!

Hi Emi,
Welcome to Butterfly!

So glad you joined some of the active groups to connect and network with like-minded women. Consider creating a group of your own as well.

Each month we feature a hi-profile mom or celebrity mother to inspire and mentor the Butterfly community. This month we feature Jill Zarin of the Real Housewives of NYC... you may enjoy past video interviews with FOX's Jane Skinner or Jennifer Griffin.

Let us know if you have any questions and please take a moment to upload your photo and to invite your circle of moms into the community by way of the invite tab.
Best,
Bradi Nathan, Co-Founder
