A little about yourself...
I am a mother of three and a prosecutor of child abuse and sex crimes in New York City. During the course of my fourteen years of public service, I have successfully prosecuted hundreds of offenders. My first book “My Body Belongs to Me”, is intended to prevent child sexual abuse by teaching children that their bodies are their own. Written for children three to ten, the overriding message is if someone touches a child inappropriately, they should tell a parent or teacher right away.

In April 2011, I had the pleasure of appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss what motivated me to write My Body Belongs to Me. See video clip below.

In October 2006, I launched HowsMyNanny.com to support parents and their children. HowsMyNanny.com is the first online nanny reporting service that works to keep children safe by enabling parents to receive positive or negative feedback on their child’s caregiver via a license plate attached to the child’s stroller.

Outside the courtroom, my fondness for writing led me to create thepoemlady.com, where I pen personalized pieces for all occasions.

10 REASONS NOT TO DISCUSS CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN 2012

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 8:01pm 12 Comments

I have heard them all.  I have heard all the reasons why parents don’t discuss child sexual abuse prevention with their children.  I have heard them so often that I can recite them by heart.  As the new year approaches, I decided it would be a good idea to memorialize the top 10 reasons for not discussing the subject.  I invite you to add any that may have been omitted.

  1. Children are seldom victims of sexual…

A New Way to Watch Over Them

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend a launch event in New York City for the new Tommee Tippee products.  I checked out their sippee cup selection and even eyed their natural cleaning products.  But as a tried and true safety guru, I must admit I was drawn to their Closer to Nature® Digital Video Baby Monitor.  I recalled being a new parent and all the anxiety that came along with my new role. With all the firsts of bringing…

Talking to Kids About Sexual Abuse - ABC News Interview

Posted on November 18, 2011 at 1:13pm 0 Comments

As many of you know, I prosecute child abuse and sex crimes in New York City and wrote a book to help parents talk to their children about child sex abuse prevention called My Body Belongs to Me. In the wake of the Penn State scandal, as a prevention specialist, it is difficult to watch Sandusky get so much air time and sit idly by as the media remains silent on the subject of prevention.  As such, I am sharing with my contacts, and asking them to share…

Thank you for the welcome note Jill.  Can you possibly direct me to any forums or information for a stepmother who wishes to adopt her 10 yr old stepson.  Bio mom is deceased.  I love my husband with every cell in my body, he and I have worked very hard with our little guy and his challenges.  If something were to happen to my husband, I would be devastated if someone decided to try to take our son from me.  My husband is recovering from a near fatal accident, which got me thinking I could have lost them both.  Any advice is warmly welcome.  Thank you! Hello, Jill. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book. Unfortunately, my child has been assaulted and I found your book after the fact. I'm really struggling as today we will meet with the team at the Child Advocacy Center for the interview. I don't know what/ how much to share about my ex husband. My son has special needs and his life has been turned upside down over the past several months since he disclosed to me. This has been one of the most horrifying things to try to cope with. My hope is that we get the support that we (both) need from the center and that my ex is prohibited from further "unsupervised" visits. Can you give me an idea of what typically happens after the initial interview?
