A little about yourself...
I have been working since age 14yrs. I recently relocated from Michigan to Texas due to the insurance company i had been working for, for 8yrs closed down my department. My goal was to come to Texas and get back into auto insurance but, things didn't go as planned (i have really tried). Since i been here, I've worked at a bank for 6 months and now I'm a claims assistant working in workers comp. (totally different from auto ins.). I been with the comapny for 1 1/2yrs. I recently had a baby, he's now 5 months old. I had complications due diabetes i didn't know i had during my pregnancy. I was put on bedrest when i was 6 months until the end of my pregnancy, which enabled me to receive STD (60% of my regular pay). After, the pregnancy i had more complications and the doctor's kept me off work and the STD went into LTD just about 2 months ago. Well, my doctor is releasing me back to work 12/27/09 but, for the month of December i will have no income because the disability company feels that i am no longer disabled. To top it all off, i recently seperated from my BF for 8 1/2yrs because he decided he didn't want to get married. I just moved from a big home to an apartment with no income to pay rent, buy food or pay bills. I really didn't not expect to be denied my LTD benefits, they paid me 1 check the end of Oct. So, that's why i am here on your site. I need to really find work, guidance and myself again because as of now, i don't have none of that. Thx

Karen - You're welcome. Sounds like you're taking some great steps. Continuing your networking is really important. Maybe you can look for a group of local women in the same situation as you and share childcare support. Would be great to get support and connections so you know you're not alone.
Best,
Julie

Hey Karen!

How are you doing this fine Sunday morning? I am getting ready to begin my morning and wanted to touch base with all of my friends today.

I especially wanted to seek you out this morning to see how the job / career search is going. Have you made a decision yet about whether this opportunity will suit you? We have a gift for all new IBOs this month good till the end of the year. Please call me @ 800-246-0469, leave a message and I will call you back to discuss it.

If you prefer to just be a member you can cover your entire household for $39 a month. It is affordable. We have plans less than $20 a month also. Let me help you Karen. Some medical coverage is better than none. I am using the advocacy program that will help me lower my child's knee surgery bill significantly. Glasses that normally cost $150+, cost $14 with this plan. We can help you and your family.

Hi Karen - Sorry to hear about your situation. It must be very difficult dealing with your health challenges, personal issues and your work situation. I hope you are feeling better. Sounds like you are able to get back to work. From your profile, you said you were not able to get work in auto insurance. I want to commend you for finding the position as a claims assistant. Although it is different work, my hunch is that you were hired because you have transferable skills - skills from your past experience that could be applied to a new position. If you are still running in to problems finding work in auto insurance, you'll want to look at related industries where your skills can be used. What other types of insurance companies can you work for - health insurance? life insurance? What other experience do you have that can be applied in other positions and other industries? Finding a job can feel like a full time job. I'd encourage you to research companies in your area in businesses that are related to the experience you have. Also, be sure to let everyone you know in the are that you are available. You'd be surprised that a friend's friend may know someone in need of your experience and help. I would also look for local organizations that help single mom's find employment. You can do web searches for 'job assistance' in your geographic region, or even look in your local Yellow Pages under "Job" or "Career." I hope this helps and at least gives you some ideas on a few next steps. Let me know if you have other questions. Best, Julie - Butterfly Career Coach
