A little about yourself...: I am a professional writer and editor with a language-arts teaching certificate and one grown son. I have 36 years experience in publishing, much of it in educational materials. I have worked for well-known organizations such as McGraw-Hill, Holt, Yale, Martin Scorcese's Film Foundation, etc. My last full-time gig was as the Editorial Director of a children's book publishing company. When I remarried in 2001, I left to write a novel and start my own freelancing business. It was going fairly well until the recent drastic downturn in the economy. My clients still love me, but they have little work to send out these days. I completed my novel for young adults (hurray), but I have not yet been able to find a publisher. So I'm in transition now and trying to discern my next move. I'm so happy to have found this group! (Thank you for the great presentation in Old Saybrook!)

I'm just getting my feet wet inthe networking arena. I'm an Old Saybrook resident and have been writing (freelance) for area and regional publications with some success for 9 or 10 years. I have also written a young adult novel and don't quite know what to do with it at this point. I sent queries out to several agents but was turned down. I imagine it could stand a bit of editing and tweaking...no doubt. So any thoughts or pointers you might have I'd be much obliged. Thanks for your time-ML

I was in the music business and I am also working on childrens music right now which I might at some point love to tie together with some of the stories or vice versa. If you can give me some advice on how to get an agent or go about publishing I would REALLY appreciate your help!!! I had tried sending my materials out a few times with no response.

She's a busy psychotherapist and very hard to get ahold of. First check out AH's Website. They have a ton of information and have people you can talk to. You don't have to sign anything unless you want to move forward.
By the way, how did you get your photo centered here? I'd like to move mine down so my forehead is not cut off!

Thanks for the info on Author House. I will check out their website. I have heard good things about another one called lulu.com. I would be interested in talking to your sister-in-law about why she chose Author House. I understand that some of these sites actually take ownership of the book and you just get the royalties and I don't want that. I can think of a million questions, but if your sister-in-law is willing to talk to me, I promise to keep it to a max of a thousand questions - ha, ha!!!!
