Hi Leah,

I am a single mom, and I was laid off from my job over six months
ago. I have not been able to get a job. I thought about freelancing
my skills by the hour to small businesses that don't have the funds or
job big enough for a temp. However I am not sure how to reach this
market any ideas?

Hi Leah, I too am in Human Resources, it is the love of my life and through it, I give back to my community through workshops. I have not found a full time job to supplement my business, but I do what I can to add on. Going slowly, but I know it takes time and when I am finally there, I will feel good and more empowered to help others. It is nice to meet you and am putting you on a fellow New Yorker friend.

Hi Leah,
Thanks for the words of wisdom re: my son's reaction to my working outside of the home. He seems to be easing into it but i did work hard to make sure it was a smooth transition. i hired a student from the local university to pick up the boys and bring them back to the house. So he gets the comfort of coming home, and I get to work. The sitter does a good job, so far, of keeping them away from my home office. On two days, my kids go to a neighbor's house who watches children.

A question -- do you think the cost of after care should be a shared expense between ex-spouses, if it's not spelled out in the divorce agreement? I do think so, but I want to hear another opinion. I need to ask the ex-husband to pay for half. ... It's getting expensive.

Hi Leah,
Thank you so much for reaching out to me..I appreciate it. I sometimes forget that Joshua is not my "biological" son... we are so bonded and very much alike that I completely forget about the adoption. I have to remind myself as to not forget to keep the awareness around it and make him feel safe in exploring it at his pace. I also want him to know about his birth country and culture but it is all an evolution adn will unfold over time. They key is that he feels secure and safe in knowing his story. I think beingborn in one's heart is all that really matters and Joshua is a blessing in my life. So many say that I saved him...I think that goes two ways.

I would love to hear your single-parent story Leah. I am so glad you wrote to me. Yuu are in upstate NY? I will write to you from my email as well and share mroe about my job exploration... it has been very tough. But just as I persevered in bring Joshua home..I know I will get through this too. I can't think of it any other way but it is a bit scary as a single mom!
Looking forward to corrsponding with you!
Best,
Tina
