How Many Children Do You Have?
2
A little about yourself...
After working for over 14 years in recruitment advertising, I took about 8 months off to welcome my second child. I'm now in a job that demands 60 to 70 hours a week of time... My children are still little, so I'm doing some soul searching.

Hi Megan - Thanks for your note. Sounds like you have a very full, busy life with work, kids and I'm sure a lot of other responsibilities taking time. You have an impressive career path that you've obviously put in a lot of time and energy to develop.
Regarding your question: "I HATE job hopping, but I need to consider my small children and my health. What are your recommendations as I search for what direction to take next?"
-First, the issue you bring up regarding 'job hopping.' Fortunately, in general, this is not as big an issue as it used to be. The traditional relationship between employer and employee has significantly changed where loyalty to company is no longer an assumption. In most professions (and you need to make decisions based on your knowledge of your profession), the focus has become more individual. It you are not getting what you want/need from your job, or you do not feel you're contributing/operating at your best, it is acceptable to seek change for a more appropriate opportunity. What's important is that you be able to explain your 'story' - what has led to the changes that you made. There is nothing wrong to leave a position that is not good for your health (or life or relationship.)
-With that said, if you do decide to look elsewhere, keep in mind the following:
-attempt to leave on good terms/don't burn bridges
-be clear about what you want from the next position so you can evaluate during the interview process. (You don't want to go from one not-optimal/bad situation to another.)
-informational interview - find out about companies and positions from people already there. Try to get the inside scoop before you go inside.
-utilize your network - friends, colleagues, professional associations, alma mater, social networking.
Let me know if this helps, and if you have other questions. Best to you!
Julie
OMG!!! Yes, I do remember you!!! We worked together at TMP!!!
How cool is that!!
I love what I'm doing with Butterfly. My partnerl, Bradi Nathan and I launched it January 15th of this year at the home of Malaak and Chris Rock. We have been excited with how Butterfly has grown, but it's definitely a 24/7 commitment. Plus, I still juggle this with my f/t job in advertising. Although less recruitment and more social networking/web work.
