- A little about yourself...
- Often referred to as The Boogie Moms, friends Mindee Doney and Julie Pickens developed the first ever saline nose wipe called Boogie Wipes as a solution for their kids' sore, red, runny noses. Using the idea, their business backgrounds and mompreneurial spirit they formed Little Busy Bodies, Inc in May 2007. They took the company through an intense research and development process - hiring a chemist, surveying consumers and interviewing manufacturers. In December 2007 they sold their first pack of Boogie Wipes. Sales went on to reach $1.1 million their first year of business. Little Busy Bodies now operates out of Beaverton, OR and employs nine full-time employees (seven are Moms) including Julie as CEO and Mindee as CMO. The company is on track to hit $4.2 million in sales for 2009 and offers nine saline nose wipe products to 40,000 retail stores across the US, Mexico and Canada including: Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, Nordstrom, Walgreens, Toys"R"Us and Kroger.
As mom business moguls, Mindee and Julie now share their entrepreneurial knowledge with other inventors and business owners through speaking engagements and media platforms. They have appeared on The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, countless morning shows across the country and are the resident Mompreneur experts on Family Matters Radio. The Boogie Moms have been featured on the front page of The Oregonian business section, at the Oregon Inventors Conference, on blog talk radio shows like Classy Mommy, Chatterbox and Entrepreneur People. They were recently recognized as one of Top 50 Leading Moms in Business by Start Up Nation. They have been quoted as innovation experts in industry publications such as Entrepreneur Magazine, HAPPI (Household and Personal Products Industry), Chain Drug Review, and INDA (Association of Non-Woven's). The Boogie Moms are a finalist for Oregon 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year and the keynote speakers for the National Moms in Business Unite conference, in September 2009.
Before breaking ground with Boogie Wipes, Julie was a retail sales manager for her family’s wine and beer distribution business for 11 years and worked for Miller Brewing/Gallo Winery. She owned and operated six different franchise locations for Cold Stone Creamery and Wetzel's Pretzels. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Julie lives in Tigard, Oregon with her husband Dean and daughters, McKenna (13), Molly (10), and Gabby (4). Mindee managed West Coast marketing programs for Procter & Gamble for five years, and was a Marketing Manager for McDonald's Corporation for three years. She also ran her own event marketing agency for four years. A graduate of Western Oregon University, Mindee lives in Beaverton, Oregon with her husband John and children, Aidan (7), Avree (3), and Austin (6 mo).
