The first and foremost step in a SEO campaign is to find the right keywords and prepare a list for it. The entire success of SEO depends on choosing the right keywords. Google Analytics is a tool where you can find the keywords which are widely used (statistics), and there are many other online keyword analysis tools from which you can gather data, and prepare keyword list.
After you gather the list, choose the keywords that are used the most and target them to be strengthened in your website content,
Post them (key words) in forums sites, social bookmarking sites, directories sites, blog sites etc.

As the momentum gathers, slowly but steadily your website will be pushed to the top slot of search results. Whenever the specific keyword is keyed in Google or Yahoo, you will be happy to see your website listed on the top search results.
