How Many Children Do You Have?

A little about yourself...
I have been extremely busy promoting my platform, Domestic Violence Awareness and Education for the past 7 1/2 years. I currently volunteer with several different organizations within the domestic violence community serving on fundraising boards, volunteering at events and shelters and creating tshirts for the Clothesline project. As a survivor of domestic violence I want to bring light to the issue of stereotyping the victim. I recently started a program, A Case of Hope, providing pillowcases with essential items to children entering domestic violence emergency shelters and will begin a program working towards increasing self esteem in young at risk girls to help them avoid violent relationships. I am the proud mother of a 5 year old daughter and wife of an Army MP. I work full time in healthcare and loves spending her free time with her family. You can learn more about domestic violence and it's effects on our community and Shana Smith on her blog http://mrssoutherncalifornia.blogspot.com.

Project Gratitude - Helping Military Widows

Posted on December 15, 2010 at 2:34pm 0 Comments

I am confident that you understand the high price of freedom. Unfortunately, there are many that forget, especially as time passes and events are forgotten. The number of Operations Iraq Freedom and Enduring Freedom casualties, as confirmed by the United States Central Command, is 5308 which many of which have left behind widows and children. On January 13th, twenty bereaved widows and daughters of fallen military members will attend the Miss America Finals weekend in Vegas, courtesy of an…

Please help me raise money for Breast Cancer

For the THIRD year I am walking in honor of a few great and inspiring women. My Aunt Judy, Shelley, Marji Barks, Mrs. Guide and Alma Brown. These women are all amazing and have touched my life in ways I will never be able to explain. 3 of these women are survivors, 1 was recently diagnosed and 1 couragously fought until the end. Each step I take in my 39.3 mile journey will be for them and others like them. It will be for their families and friends that saw…

Opening my heart and moving on...

Posted on May 15, 2010 at 2:51am 0 Comments

It's been 7 1/2 years since I walked out of our door that night... 7.5 years since I thought I made the decision, once and for all to leave. Little did I know that I would question that decision a million times, have an attempt by him to end my life and then I attempted to reconcile once. When I left that night I couldn't have imagined all that would go through my mind... to this day.

I have always loved to write, my life has always been an open book. I recently started a blog aimed…

Hi Shana,
Welcome to our Community!! I just read your blog post and am still thinking about it. You can start your journey here by visiting our Health and Volunteer sections (found under the Lifestyle tab) where we provide exclusive content to our Butterfly members.

Please join one of our many groups or consider starting one of your own.

Each month, we feature a celebrity or hi-profile mother to inspire our Butterfly moms. This month, we are featuring Dina Manzo, star of Real Housewives of NJ. Dina shares how she balances her being on reality Tv, motherhood, and her work, not to mention her charity which is 'near and dear' to her, Project Ladybug.

Please let me know if you have any questions and /or suggestions. Keep blogging !! Love it!!

Best,
Terry, Co-Founder, Bfly
