5 Simple Ways To Live A Life You Love

Hi,

Thought I would share my 5 Simple Ways To Live A Life You Love.

Below are the 5 things I do daily.

1. Set goals – Set goals in your life that you choose to accomplish, you can have one main

BIG goal and set smaller goals that head toward it. Tick them off as you go so you can see

what you have accomplished, you…

The Surprise Baby

People say that I’m brave for having six kids. My take is that it’s nothing compared to those crazy mamas whose kids are out of the baby stage when they go and immerse themselves right back into it. Imagine ditching diaper bags, sleepless nights and poopy bottoms only to return to them several…

Learning to control what I can, and letting go of the rest.

It sometimes only takes a few small events in our life to remember there is little we can do to control everything in our life.  A few nights ago, my husband was stuck in a non-moving traffic jam for six hours in DC, after two flights were canceled.  With every call and email, I wished more than anything that he could just lay his head down on a comfortable pillow, rather than on the car headrest, for more than a few hours.  But there was nothing I could do.  In a few weeks we will go to…

No Thanks! (I'd rather not deal with challenging behavior.)

We are dealing with some challenging behaviors at home to say the least.   Our soon to be three-year-old has decided he’d like to find out what happens when we count to 3.  I suppose he really enjoys this scenario because we have had to relive it over and over and over.

He finds out that he is sent to his room for a time out.  Instead of going up there to SUFFER, he probably plays to his heart’s content, but who am I to actually think that parents have an upper hand when…

How do you take risks?

Some days I feel philosophical, some days, well, deep thoughts by Jack Handey are the closest I get. Today is a Jack Handey day, so let’s get to the point.

A few weeks ago I went to a seminar for women in leadership.  It was a wonderful session, I made a few great connections and I learned something about myself: I am scared to death to take risks. I like to please people. Case in point: I “quit” a contract I hated three weeks ago, yet I am…

My 40-year old Confession - Weekly Wings

They say when you turn 40 you start to reflect on life and experience a bit of self-discovery.  They also say that 40 years old is a good time to assess current friendships and to rid oneself of any toxic energy. I am not quite sure who “they” are but, I do confess (keep it low), I am turning 40 this February and it appears as if I have some work to do! My wonderful, shorter than me, husband threw a celebratory…

A Single Girl’s Advice on Parenting.

Remember when you were single and child-free?  As a singleton, some of my biggest worries were what to wear and if I should call “him” or wait for him to pick up the phone. It’s not that I was superficial, but when you have no one else to worry about, lipstick color can be very important!  “Life changes after having kids” is one of the biggest understatements in history.  Studies have shown moms are relying more on friends and local networks to support the challenges of parenthood, and…

THEY'RE ANIMALS

Well, it finally happened. I had to speak up at a local restaurant when parents that were letting their kids run all over the place. The place is a pretty laid back family restaurant. I eat there a couple of times a month, they have a great Cobb salad. This woman was letting her kids run all over the place. They were also shacking the gumball machine so violently that it was going to tip over. They wanted the gum and were shaking it so that the gumballs would come out, which they did. I was… Continue

Are you the perfect mom?

Are you the perfect mom?  If you answered yes, good for you!  If you did not, it is time to take a good hard look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I’m great!”  As moms we tell our kids how fantastic they are everyday, and it is about time we start doing the same for ourselves. …

In Japan and Korea, Asian-style Parenting Means Mom Stays Home

This is a reprint of a guest blog Carol Fishman Cohen wrote for Working Mother.

In the wave of reaction to Amy Chua’s Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, the focus has been primarily on the kids and whether the Chinese parenting methods described could be considered child abuse. What has not been discussed is that… Continue

How Can I Help?

And in desperate times, you look to older siblings for help!

With the recent death of both grandpas, I was left feeling like I needed a bit of help and support. I had six jetlagged kids up at random hours (some with fevers), work commitments and was parenting solo because…

Career Management: When You Can Do the Job, BUT You Aren’t a Cultural Fit

You’re doing the job.  You’re delivering what you were supposed to.  Despite all of that goodness, you don’t feel like you belong.  Maybe it’s not one thing in particular or maybe it is a couple of glaring things, none of which seem monumental.  You just continue to know that you…

What Divorce Teaches Our Children

I just read one of the blog posts here about meditation and how parents need to improve their actions and communications after divorce (or while going through divorce) in order to serve the well-being of their children.  As parents, children should be our number one priority, and I applaud those who are concerned about the aftermath and work with parents to co-parent in a productive way.

But here's the thing.  Studies show that the majority of divorces involve low-conflict…

REALLY, CRIED???

Well, I recently read on the net that our late governor, Arnold, lost 200 million in revenue by serving as governor. That is by his calculation. He said that a lot of damage had been done to his family because he would leave on Monday morning and be gone all week. Well, Mr Schwarrzenegger (sorry about murdering your name) thats life. Sacrafices must be made. The article also said that the State of California lost somewhere around 150 BILLION! Thank you for your service, but a lot of us wish…
