A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Vasectomy Clinic

I often speak about how I do not have the “I’m done” gene when it comes to babies. Whenever I have a newborn, I think, “Yeah, I could do this one more time”. The problem is, I say that EVERY time – whether it’s baby #1 or baby #6.

As a result of my gene-lacking…

Coming into my own...finally!!!

I've always known that working for someone else was a temporary thing....but after 16 years in the workforce working for someone else I didn't know when that day would come.  As a wife and a mother of a 15 year old and a 3 year old I just can't pick up and leave a job because I don't want to work for someone else.  So I decided that I would begin the process by becoming an independent Lia Sophia Advisor.  I know it's not a unique service that I am providing however I've found it to be a very…

And Today's Letter is....Q?

I was on a packed train a few weeks ago and heard the woman next to me talking to her husband on her cell phone. She was instructing him to be sure their daughter took the quilt in the den to school for show and tell. That day she had to bring something in for the letter Q. The letter Q? That’s a pretty hard letter to find something for. I started thinking about what was in my apartment that begins with the letter Q. Quail eggs? No. Quagmire picture from Family Guy? Maybe. Q is such a hard… Continue

How I Stay Healthy & Fit

My whole Healthy Italian brand is based on staying healthy and fit, but I just wanted to write an easy, go-to blog that can help anyone get started on this path.

First, you really need to be grateful for your body and let go of all the negative talk and unrealistic goals. Be proud of yourself that you want to make a positive change and be grateful for what you already have. It all begins with your attitude and mindset.

Second, take a look at how you are feeding…

Learning Experience- First Art Show

So I have started my own art biz.  I have been painting since I was a little girl.  I finally after all these years got my work into an Art show.  There were a few obstacles to over come.  Almost didnt get to be in the show.  Reasons that are personal.  So all legal stuff done to get permit to sale and domain name to build a web sight and get a tax number.  By that point I was wandering what did I get mself into?  Not willing to give up just because there are mountains to climb, I Keep…

Career Management: Top 10 Career Limiting Moves

If you’re reading this, you probably don’t need to worry too much about bad decision making or judgment. Most of the time, people who amble through life are barely making it, and give as much “thought time” to their behavior as a cow does. Nevertheless, it’s good to occasionally think about this issue before you seriously trash your future. I would point out that there are things that don’t show up on this list, like leaving the microphone on while you discuss top secret information, simply… Continue

It's Monday, can I call in sleepy?

Getting out of my apartment in the morning is nothing short of a miracle.  I have to get myself ready, my 8 month old daughter up, dressed, and fed, and my husband up.   Not to mention put my daughter in a place where I can see her while I’m cleaning the…

No Parking Allowed!

The parking spots designated as "Handicapped Only" are filled as usual. I slow down as I spot a woman coming out of the sport center. I would not have guessed that one of the vehicles parked in the sacred "H" zone belong to this red faced, sweaty, floral leotard clad woman. She obviously had just come from an exercise class of one sort or another and is walking without the assistance of cane, walker, crutches, or cast. I'm familiar with this scene. Small sports cars or large hydraulically…

Mediate Your Way to a Sale

Sometimes trying to close a business deal feels more like a conflict than it does a negotiation.  Rather than go head to head with a potential customer, consider using a few mediation skills instead.  Namely:

1)      Learn what your customer cares most about.  Price?  Commitment?  Service?  Ask open-ended questions and then listen until she’s finished speaking.  Trying to address every issue immediately may have you answering the wrong questions.

2)      Get creative.  Sure,…
