Over the last two years, I have seen a lot of young women battle illness – yep, that usual suspect, cancer, hard at work. As I see them struggle with their young families, businesses and work obligations, it always leaves me wondering – how would I cope? Or more to the point – how would my family…Continue

Ever played the game Ker-Plunk? Take all that time putting the sticks in to place. Like A LOT of time because towards the end none of the sticks want to find another hole on the other side. Only to pull the sticks out one by one and wait for the marbles to fall in less than half the time it took you to put the sticks in! We had the game growing up as kids. I…Continue

Let it be known that according to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report in 2011, 71% of mothers with kids under the age of 18 are working, or actively looking, for work. So, here we are…. a statistic. What the statistic should truly reveal (in my humble opinion) is that we are (100%) the most time-efficient species on earth. We live in an era with easy access to smartphones, videoconferencing and where work hours are no longer confined to nine to five. This in itself has…Continue

Part One: Career
Roll With It – The Wheel of Life
A very popular activity that many coaches use to help clients identify goals is the Wheel of Life. A quick internet search will reveal the popularity of this activity, along with many templates for your own Wheel of Life. Most have several categories already designated, such as career, family, health, wealth, spirituality, etc. A few are blank, inviting you to choose the categories that are most meaningful to you. The idea…Continue

When I was a teacher, this time of year meant returning to work after having my summer off with the kids. Though it was never as hard as the first time, each fall was a difficult transition for the whole family: suddenly I was not there…Continue

Catching up on what we did over the summer.....
We went camping out in Western MD at my dad's trailer at Little Orleans Campground. Everyone had a great time and getting away with family was perfect. I even discovered Chocolate Chip Cookies S'mores.... YUM!

It's amazing how time flies and we don't even realize all the things that happen around us. This happens more than often when we have children. Between the daily chores and the constant trips to soccer games, baseball games, art classes, it never ends. Not to mention, there's also "the man of the house" who also needs a lot of attention and care. My typical summer begins (obviously) when the children are out of school and the running around in the morning stop. Boy that's something I do not…Continue

Here we are, a bit shy of one month before the kiddos return to school. I was thinking of milking every last moment until the insanity of carpools, play dates and practices begin. In all honesty, I’m having a hard time with the “milking the moment” part caused by the influx of texts from parents trying to prearrange it all! I’m not ready for the “Who’s driving to/from?” or the “I pulled my child from travel soccer because he didn’t make the A team!” conversation. …Continue
I recently had the opportunity to read a book. As a busy, working mom of six, it was a rare occasion. We were at the cottage for a week and my kid had been nagging me to read her favourite novel, The Hunger Games. Surprisingly, I got really into it and had a hard time putting it…Continue
