How to look for a reliable or trusty babysitter

I was having a hard time concentrating on my work because my son has become extremely active and only sleeps 1 hour during naptime. I was thinking of getting a babysitter, and a friend suggested that I should try Sitter City because that's where she found her son's babysitter and she's been raving about her. So I signed-up and found someone based on her ratings and I've been using her since. My son totally loves her.… Continue

Have Breasts, Will Travel

I have this friend Steve who was recently on a flight. Across the aisle was a new mama with her babe and a very elderly man, who from here on in shall be called ‘old dude’.

As the airplane was taking off, mama started breastfeeding babe. As any travelling mama knows, it’s good if you can get babe to feed on the way up and the way down to relieve any ear pain due to changing air pressure.

As she is feeding, old dude is shuffling around, mumbling under his breath, clearing… Continue

I need to tell you that my ego and everything else about me has taken a serious hit this year. My personal life has been very hard and I have continually tried to keep my chin up, be positive and have faith that it's going to be over soon. But, its very hard to do when nobody wants you and you realize that your friends have deserted you. When your not the top dog any longer and all your opportunities fade away because your too expensive too have around, you realize who your friends are. I went… Continue

No More Flabby Arms

We are hard working women, moms, wives, friends and we spend a great time of time taking care of others -- but if WE fall apart we have nothing left to give

To that end, I am introducing an amazing fitness product that you carry in your purse and get a 5 minute arm toning and tightening exercise in whenever and wherever you can --

You simply MUST try it -- it has transformed my entire upper body -- HOW you may say - rather skeptical as I was --

Vacations with babysitter/nanny

I'm a mom of 6 yr daughter, and twins age 2.5(boy & girl). I work full time and have a babysitter/nanny take care of them during the week. We are planning to take a week vacation to Disney. I was thinking about taking along our baby sitter, to help with the kids as I need some R&R myself. This would be my first time taking a babysitter on vacation with our family. She normally works 11 hrs a day. She will have a room with the twins and we will have a room with our older daughter. The… Continue

Becoming Supermarket Savvy

You know by now that one of the easiest ways to avoid temptation is to avoid bringing high-fat, high-sugar foods into your home in the first place. Studies have shown that moms make more than 90% of the food purchasing decisions, so now's the time to learn how to make those decisions smart ones!

The first step… Continue

On September 15, 2008, 11 women walked through the doors of the Goldman Sachs office in Manhattan. Some had decades of experience in finance; others had substantial careers in law, technology, operations and accounting. All had voluntarily taken a hiatus from the workforce—from two years to two decades—and were there to explore the possibility of returning to the world of finance through the pilot Returnship (SM) program offered by Goldman… Continue

Giving Advice in the 21st Century - I May Be Able to Help!

Giving advice is a delicate process, but one I have a lot of experience with over the years. For more years than I care to admit, friends, family and others have come to me for advice on everything from love to work to parenting and so much more. Most of the time, if the person asking for the advice takes my advice, things turn out well. If the person chooses not to take my advice, typically things turn out the way I predict they would should they not take my advice. Of course, I have been… Continue

five years and counting

This Friday J and I will celebrate five years of marriage, hence the Ooph logo. I spent some time Sunday looking through our wedding photos and reminiscing about the day we got married. I know I am biased but it was an insanely fun wedding, complete with hay bales, cowboy hats, Budweiser and margarita popsicles to help our guests cope with the hot September afternoon. I have only looked at the photos one other time right after the wedding and… Continue

Opt in/Opt out?

I am so confused.

I was still trying to figure out if Lisa Belkin was right in 2003 when she announced that many women - intelligent, professional, affluent women - were deliberately and consciously opting out of the workforce, choosing instead to raise their children and be homemakers.

Many argued at the time (and continue to argue) that the choice was neither deliberate nor conscious. That women were in fact being driven out of the workforce in droves due to pay equity… Continue

"Mompreneur" stimulus package

So...this year has been a rough one, economically speaking. Consumer spending is way down, which means fewer opportunities for us to get our fabulous new "must have" products on the retail shelves. If you are anything like me, your goals for fiscal year 2009 have gone from making your first million to making the ends meet! The good news is that the market has entered a "recovery state", which means people are starting to spend more. With any luck, 2010 will bring buyers with money to… Continue
