It’s Not Fair

You’d think the statement “It’s not fair” would be commonly heard around our house. Strangely, it’s not. Or at least it wasn’t. I’m not sure why we had the good fortune of escaping it for so long, but it has recently become a part of our family’s vernacular.

It’s actually kind of surprising the kids didn’t think to use it before. I suspect there are plenty of occasions in our biggie-sized family that they could have. Like on movie night when I put out one big bowl of popcorn and it’s…

I'll be in my Skinny Jeans by the Holidays... How About YOU?

Let's face it. Skinny Jeans are hot right now and everyone wants

to wear them. To say the least, we all want to just look good and fit into our

clothes comfortably, whether it's Skinny Jeans, dress attire, or even in our

sweats.

A Radical Way To Organize School Lunches

Let me start out by saying that this method isn't for everyone.

And remember, kids taste buds are not like adults. They eat things we would never find palatable. (Sour gummy worms anyone?)

So, read over this lunch organizing method, wince a bit, and then try it out on your kids. You have nothing to lose and lots and…

Scraped Knees and Broken Hearts

by Cheryl Shireman

Life was easier when my kids were little. They fell down and scraped their knee and I came to the rescue. I was always there with warm arms, words of consolation, and a Snoopy bandage. It was so simple. Mom could always make things better. But then they became teenagers and hormones and swinging emotions complicated things. I could not kiss away those wounds, and worse yet, my advice became suspect and often prompted the dreaded teenage roll of the…

To Blog or Not to Blog? - Weekly Wings

Just recently I was asked point blank, “Why would I go to Butterfly if I already have a job?”  A question such as this makes me believe that I have not accurately done my job. On the flipside, I was thrilled that this inquisitive woman knew that Butterfly was in fact, a job hunting ground with 10,000+ offerings. However, I realized I… Continue

Nanny not welcome by family dog!

We get lots of interesting questions to our email at CanadianNanny.ca. Recently, a nanny in Toronto sent us this scenario, asking for some advice. What would you do?

I just started my new nanny job last week. So far, I love it! I care for an adorable little girl full time, and get along well with the parents. It is an ideal situation, execpt for one thing: their dog! Lucy* is a snarly, unhappy, and not-so-cute Terrier, owned by the family. She doesn't seem to…

Trying to have it all....

After being let go of my last job due to the economy I spent months trying to find a new career.  Finally desided to partner with the Dr.'s that created ProActiv.  They have launch a new product line that target all the 4 major skin care concerns.  It has been a hard adjustment and I have truly had to learn how to manage my time.  Not having to munch a clock or answer to anyone has been a nice challenge.

Can any one give advice on starting your own company and time management…

And the Emmy goes to... - Weekly Wings

I was going to write a stellar recap of the Emmy Awards, showcased on TV this past Sunday night. But, then I thought, reality or no? Not so much.  I mean, true that many a working mom were seen scooping up golden statues, with Modern Family sweeping most…  but, that doesn’t give us a true glimpse into the lives of your average mom, myself included.  So, I thought this Emmy should go to… Continue

How to Effectively Interiew a Sitter/Nanny

It is suggested you have at least two initial contacts with the prospective sitter/nanny, via e-mail and phone, and then two or three in-person meetings before you hire someone.  This will help ensure that the sitter/nanny/family…

The Pint-Sized Dictator

Sweet, yet powerful. www.clbuchananphotography.com

The youngest of my six children has had a pretty sheltered existence to date. He has only been cared for by three people: Me, Daddy-o, and Nanny Hazel. Even my very involved mom has noted that he’s the only grandchild she has never babysat. Part of the problem is…

In Memory of 9/11 - Weekly Wings

As you are well aware, the 10th anniversary of the attacks on America took place this past September 11th.  Like most, I sat idol and watched the children, no older than my own, read their daddy’s names aloud, and proud, in memory. When tragedy strikes, one often remembers the exact moment and location, or even the smell of the brand new carpet that one was sitting upon.  I remember… Continue

Blog Carnival: Calling on Women with Heavy menstrual Bleeding

Hello All,

This summer I had the great fortune to be sponsored by Hologic to go to BlogHer. I had submitted a promo video for a contest that they were running promoting the procedure, NovaSure Endometrial Ablation. I had the procedure 2 years ago and shared my experience. I actually won, one thing lead to another and there I was, all expenses paid, in San Diego at BlogHer.

I am so pleased to have had the NovaSure procedure. It has dramatically reduced my menstrual…
