New Year's Resolution: Self Compassion (It's the New Self Esteem)

I know that even though I have been a Life Coach for many years I considered being vulnerable myself a weakness (although I wouldn't admit it for many years).  In more recent years, I started to see that the reason to "hide" (and not share how I was truly experiencing life) is because I thought I was the "only one".  My unconscious little voice would say "there is something wrong with you".  The context I had created for my life was of feeling good when I thought I was "better than others"…

Yes, I'm claiming a lot with the title of this post.

And yes, I mean it.

Do this one idea regularly, and your life will be saner. You will be happier. And your house will be neater.

I'm talking about THE FAMILY CLEAN UP.

What is that you may ask?

It's a simple idea that removes YOU from being in charge of keeping your house…

Outing Santa

Good big brothers don't expose the Santa lie to little brothers.

I spoke last year about the difficulty of outing Santa to my son. He was at an age that most kids no longer believed, so…

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year...Really??????

I don't know about you but I get antsy and jittery around the holidays.  It's another year coming to a close and I look back on what I have accomplished.  Believe me, I have nothing to complain about...I have a wonderful husband who thank goodness has a great job, I have a terrific son in college and a thriving real estate business where I have doubled my salary from last year. I work 7 days a week and feel very blessed to be this successful in an economy like the one we are in.  What's…

Why are You Still Single? - Weekly Wings

Business took me to California earlier this week where I found myself mixing with remarkably talented, accomplished women in their 40’s and 50’s.  All financially independent, in high-powered jobs and most, if not all, SINGLE.  The divorced single mom and the recent, never been married NYC transplant, both pondered the same question, “Why am I Still Single?”

Working Mom Away From Home

I am a working mother who works out of state Mon-Thurs. This arrangement is non uncommon for men. I am not sure how common it is for women and feel like becuase I am a woman I am doing something wrong. I am in a specialized profession where my work can onlly be found in large companies. Maine doesn't offer many opportunities so I work in Massachusettes during the week. Anyone else in such an arrangement?

Talking Penn State With the Kiddos

It's a sad day when you sit your kids down to warn them about being too trusting of coaches and mentors.

Last weekend, the whole family was in the truck and Daddy-o needed to dash into a shop. The rest of us waited in the…

Bad Boss Series: What To Do When The Boss – Hovers Over You?

This bad boss is sometimes known as the “helicopter boss”.  They seem to have nothing better to do than to lurk over your shoulder while you’re trying to get your work done.  To add insult to this, they may nit-pick and even rework what you’ve done.  It leaves you wondering why they hired you in the first place, if they can spend so much time hovering over your job rather than doing their own.

There are a number of potential causes for this:

     They are too controlling.  They…

Child Safety Tips - November Newsletter

A New Way to Watch Over Them

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend a launch event in New York City for the new Tommee Tippee products.  I checked out their sippee cup selection and even eyed their natural cleaning products.  But as a tried and true safety guru, I must admit I was drawn to their Closer to Nature® Digital Video Baby Monitor.  I recalled being a new parent and all the anxiety that came along with my new role. With all the firsts of bringing…

Warning: Showing Off May Cause Injury

Just prior to taking this photo, someone may have attempted a triple back flip off of the diving board....

I’m all about dads playing hard with the kiddos, but around here I’ve noticed that “playing with” the kids has a tendency to transform into “showing off” for the…
