9/11, NFL, VMAs and Your Weekend Was? - Weekly Wings

Certainly a very somber day this past weekend as Saturday, September 11th, 2010 marked the nine-year anniversary of the attacks on America. To the families who mourn over loved ones, we honor you. We listened intently as President Obama asked Americans to honor the victims by renewing a "sense of common purpose" and refusing to let terrorists tear down the nation's ideals. We’re with him on that one!

In contrast, September 12th paid homage to our parents, deemed National Grandparents Day. It was a day to thank our mothers and fathers for all that they’ve done to help us succeed: watch our kids so we can go to work or perhaps care for our children as we enjoy a date or vacation with our significant other. A little know fact – Grandparents Day officially originated in 1978 although, we believe it dates back to the cave man era when grandparents babysat so that we could drag one another by the hair in silence.

As we rounded out the afternoon of September 12th, we said farewell to the men in our lives as they parked themselves on, or with, whatever or whoever might have them to watch the NFL games online, NFL Redzone or to engage in NFL fantasy football. If you’re like us, you didn’t mind, as it gave us ample time to prepare to watch the VMAs, also known as the MTV Video Music Awards. Or, to read through some of the wonderfully honest and rewarding comments made by fellow Butterfly members:

“Thanks for the welcome and all of the encouraging words. I am at a crossroads of sorts, we just buried my Mom a little over two weeks ago and I feel like I have lost my best friend. But on a good note, I will be finished with my Associates in March of next year and I am going forward with my BA in Paralegal Studies. I am thankful that I found this website and hope to make lots of friends here. You can never have too many good friends around to encourage you through this ever-changing world. Take care.” Tina Phillips

“Thank you for your warm welcome and for creating a virtual place where working women can connect and share. Thank you!” Lynn Albala

“Thank you for welcoming me to this network. I hope to learn and share ideas from other women's experiences in their personal and professional spheres. I think this is a great way to empower women to become independent, financially sound and confident in who they are and what they represent. Kindest regards, Diana Sirico

And, listen to the words from B’fly member and cancer survivor, Claudia M. Seggel as you watch her moving video and honor her as we approach October, Breast Cancer Awareness month. Buy her inventive hat-plus-hair creation (made with human hair) for the “fashionista cancer diva” in your life. No one afflicted with cancer, thanks to Claudia and Claudia’s Cool Hats, will be treated differently.

As you begin to embrace Fall and of all its happenings know that Butterfly is always here for you.
