Online courses at all levels are easy to find these days. You can earn a GED, a college degree or advance your current career with professional development. No matter what reason you may have for signing up for a course (or two), be sure you understand what will be expected of you. You do not want the money you spend wasted if you get in over your head or you do not complete the course.

Most online courses will have minimum requirements to earn a passing grade. These could be assignments with deadlines, required readings, group projects or discussion boards. Online does mean flexibility and convenience, but in a quality program, it does not mean easy.
There will be a time commitment and you need to know you can be online as much as needed to complete the necessary items.

If your program offers a free orientation, be sure to take it. If not, you should ask questions about what the course entails BEFORE you sign up and pay any fees. Contact someone via phone or email to get some details so you can make an informed decision. Your teacher or course facilitator will appreciate you taking the time to do these things because they will know you are prepared for what lies ahead.

Online learning can be a wonderful tool. Be sure you walk into your course with your eyes wide open and be prepared to participate fully. Set yourself up for success!
