I am quite fond, to put it mildly, of Butterfly member Jill Starishevsky and her hard- hitting posts on the topic of child abuse and sex crimes.  As an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, Jill has prosecuted hundreds of sex offenders.  She is also the protective mother of three!

Jill’s most recent upload, 10 REASONS NOT TO DISCUSS CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN 2012, is as informative and straight -forward as they come.

Reason #1: “Children are seldom victims of sexual abuse.  Actually, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, in the United States, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused by the time they are 18.  Consider those numbers for a moment.  They are shocking and devastating.  Those figures alone should motivate parents to seek out prevention strategies.”

Join Jill in her child abuse prevention mission. I was elated (as a mother to a young boy) when coach Joe Paterno was fired over  “turning a deaf ear and blind eye” in the Penn St.ate child abuse scandal because I was SO SICKENED to learn that Jerry Sandusky, his former assistant coach, was “charged with molesting eight boys over 15 years, with some of the alleged assaults taking place at the Penn State football complex.” And, all Paterno had to say is that he wished he had done more?!?!?

Bradi,

Thank you so much for the post.  It's always good to know that I am supported in the work that I do.  I am a big fan of yours as well.  You have created an amazing way for women to network and communicate with one another.  Thank you for all your hard work and for your efforts in spreading the word about child sexual abuse prevention.
