My withdrawal symptoms are beginning to subside... going on day three without my "crackberry." In my efforts to pack-up the entire family for a much needed vacation, before the start of school, I was hyper-focused on everyone else's crap rather than my own. It is liberating in a sense to be without a blackberry, however, I'd be remiss if I didn't confess to a mild case of anxiety. As moms, and workers, we are often so tied to our phones in our efforts to stay organized and "together", if you will. Use me as a guinea pig - life continued seamlessly without a blackberry for three whole days. I was more present with my family and even managed get through a game of Rummy Q without the distraction of a blinking red light indicating there's a text or new email message. You should try it sometime. I dare you.
When I did "plug" myself in (on my in-laws archaic computer) I got messages alright- from new friends: Earl, Danielle and Fiona! I learned that three severe storms are affecting regions from the Caribbean to the United States. I also got a message from Paris, poor thing, who managed to get busted for having cocaine and albuterol on her person. Four friends - four messages - one dilapidated computer and no blackberry. I should have stayed completely unplugged. So the moral to my mishap, consciously or unconsciously, forget your phone and you will never forget the new memories you will have created with your children.
Terry enjoyed a nice computer-free respite of her own in Boston, reaching for her camera instead of her “crackberry.” She too felt present watching her kids tour Fenway Park, not to mention the Green Monster, and adds, “Visiting Paul Revere's house from the middle of the 18th-century surrounded by cobblestone road was enough to send any Blackberry to its rightful place; my knapsack.” While we were away, we were thrilled to see that the Butterfly community is in full swing. This September we're proud to showcase our exclusive interview with a star from the Real Housewives of NJ, Caroline Manzo. Terry and I were invited to Caroline's home a few months ago and we will confess... she could not have been more gracious! Caroline offered us fruit and refreshments and introduced us to her darling husband who was lounging in his PJ's and taking care of the dogs. In case you missed the Real Housewives of NJ reunion, one couldn’t help but to love Caroline Manzo even more – Seated next to Danielle on the couch, she was direct in trying to get answers from her (probably the only one Andy trusted not to touch her seated that close!) and honest when having to relive her son, Albie’s pain (he has a reading disability and ADD - and was asked to leave law school after fighting his way through high school and college). We hope you love the interview as much as we loved conducting it! Stay connected to Butterfly in September to see it for oneself!
