Gilt Group, Ruelala…A “gilty” pleasure or a sickness?

by: Mindy Scheier

'Ok…so I am dipping my toe in the pool of technology and got me a brand new spankin’ iPhone. Fine, truth be told, I like the cache of it and have no idea how to use it! But what I have figured out is that there is a stinkin’ app for Gilt Group! Bad, bad news for me and indirectly Greg Scheier (the husband).

Oh sorry, don’t know about the latest obsession with online designer sales? www.gilt.com, www.ruelala.com and www.topbutton.com are all significant players in this space. Basically how it works is that they post a sale on designer merchandise for women, men, kids and home…basically an online sample sale. And without a doubt if you snooze, you will definitely lose or in other terms, don’t think just click! For example, on www.gilt.com there is a fantastic pair of Habitual white jeans, ”twiggy flare leg”…WAS $187 NOW $69! FABULOUS!

These sites are fantastic for those of us that want the finer things or “must- haves” even if you don’t have the bank account to support it…but my friends be warned, it’s addicting! Let me put it to you this way, a bag of fat free chips at 25 calories per serving is still 500 calories when you eat the whole bag!

Happy Shopping!
