One - hundred years ago, West Virginia became the first state in the union to proclaim Mother’s Day an official Holiday. A woman by the name of Anna Jarvis founded Mother’s Day to honor her beloved Mother and then spent the rest of her life fighting the holiday’s commercial and political exploitation. She died alone in an asylum. * We should mention that Anna had THIRTEEN children, hence the “asylum” part. Terry and I spent the early part of our Mother’s Day watching our boys (one out of two children each) play on opposing teams and duke it out on the baseball field.
