According to Wikipedia "an entrepreneur is a person who has possession of an enterprise or venture, and assumes significant accountability for the inherent risks and the outcome. It is an ambitious leader who combines land, labor, and capital to create and market new goods or services." Sounds serious we know. For all intensive purposes we'd like to throw out our own definition of an entrepreneur: a mom who follows her passion by implementing and executing a kick-ass idea to make it a reality. Not very textbook, we know.
The following Butterfly mompreneurs are anything but textbook!
We could go on and on celebrating the amazing and talented mothers in the Butterfly community but instead, today we offer you the following exercises to release your inner mompreneur:
1. Ask yourself what it is that you love. What are you drawn to each an every day? Do you watch HGTV religiously... maybe interior design is your calling. Love Beauty Products? Become a licensed Makeup artist. What are your favorite stores to shop in? Start a local shopping blog in your community and sell advertising. (wordpress and blogger are easy to use blog formats).
2. What do you know well and what inconveniences face its customers? (ex. we knew the mommy market and believed that there needed to be a one-stop site for us to journey/find resources together)
Any of the obstacles or frustrations that you face could be business opportunities in the making! Believe it or not, I took my love of arts/crafts and began to decoupage window panes, benches, buckets, stools.... I took my wares (all created while my son napped) and sold them at local craft shows held at temples/churches. I called my little business "Nap Time Creations" and an entrepreneur was born. Many years ago, when Terry’s dad passed away, she and her mother created one-of-a-kind African jewelry pieces as a means of therapy. They became so popular, not long after they were sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and other retailers.
September is right around the corner which means, no more excuses. Your kids are back in school, carpool schedules will be put into place. September is the beginning of our fiscal year, as mothers. Start the New Year right. Generate that extra income doing something you love and release your inner Mompreneur! if you need help with the "releasing" part or are interested in selling for MyWorkButterfly as an Independent consultant email us at tstarr@myworkbutterfly.com or bnathan@myworkbutterfly.com.
