How have I spent my free time recently? Mulling over a Nike boycott. It
all started with Nike's weird from-the-grave Master's ad for Tiger.
Then I read about Ben Roethlisberger--another Nike guy.

The NFL player wasn't charged with anything but according to the NYTimes he did earn a 572-page Georgia police report of a sexual assault ac... That was enough for me.
So I started by tweeting my disapproval and I got this in response:

Which got me thinking. And thinking. And doing more thinking as I went for a 5-mile run in my Nike shoes. No, "maripoopoopoo" athletes are not
role models. But moms are and this mom has decided enough is enough.

I've got two little girls. I want them to grow up to be strong women
that love sports--just like their mom does. So as their role model I
want them to see me use my purchasing power well. Not only to I track
trends, but I also try to steer moms into spending money wisely. I'm
certainly not going to be giving Nike my dollars anymore (two pairs of
running shoes a year--roughly $200) to spend on athletes that at the
very least don't respect women. So I'm asking you all to think twice
before plunking down money for Nike shoes and apparel. As for me, I'm
returning the promotional outfit I received last year for review. What
I really wanted from Nike post the car-bashing, texting scandal was an
ad like this...
Fade in: we see Tiger teeing up a ball for a young girl. He steps back to watch her swing and nods in approval as she smacks one right down the fairway.

Narrator: Nike supports golf programs for girls. We know that the
future of the sport is in their hands. When was the last time you took
your daughter out for a round of golf?

You get the picture. Until moms realize the power we have in our purchases these massive sporting brands will never change. If you
haven't seen this video take a look. It just goes to show what
creative marketing can do for girls and women.

Now Nike it is up to you. I think it's time you put a spotlight on girls, not the men who seem to have no regard for them.

Momtrends was not paid for this post. We will be returning the running gear to Nike's PR agency with a copy of this post.

Mommy's Wish List

Every Mommy got a wish list
I put a S. in front of mine…and it transforms into a swoosh
The ultimate check list…is etched on my outfit
Like the new covenant…my heartaches for it
So the fulfillment I must grip…with both handles
Willing to forfeit designer clothes and sandals…desperate house wife scandals
Yeah…I’m hanging on…tight…for Mommy Dearest's life
A hip-hop Mom and wife…gifted to lace a track up tight
I’m the ambidextrous type…cause at the same time…I can double knot my kid's Nikes
While cooking up food for thought to feed the nation's tikes...more fire...side chat than Ike
And Lord knows, I keep my speech...first lady...like
Supermom by day and in my lane by night
Spittin kryptonite…on any open mic…I can get my hands on
And I ain’t livin in the glamorous zone…but in a humble home
I gotta juggle my mine…in the midst of the grind
This foxy Momma ain’t got time to check up on fabulous…thou I appear to be clueless
I got game…Mr. DJ…you shoulda signed me…back then in my hay day
Cause now my life is extremely hectic…on the verge of being too ludicrous
For any man to rap his head about…with barely any me time, to live it out…loud
I need oxygen...now!
Bla…blaow…I’m looking for Tom's Gunn to shoot my style…to the deaf
and here's a moment of silence for the metaphorically inept...those lacking in depth
Cause there's still a zillion things left…on my poetic list to say and do
If I count backwards I might eventually get back to me and you
Yes, all the other Moms who…need to make themselves a priority…female
So we won’t go postal...don’t you know…Mommy guilt is bi-coastal
International and a universal…dilemma
They say, happy Moms make for happy families
Whether you’re married or single parenting…staying at home…or getting your career on
Ma…we’ve gotta do something…especially for ourselves
Strive for the well being and good health
Of our mind, body and soul…make self love the goal
Of each and every soccer Mom playing the role…of a life time
Unlike the Faye Dunaway kind…I put a spin on mine
Instead of waving wire hangers…I flip out on rhyme
Cause even us understudies…deserves a chance to headline
Move from the back …to the front of the line
Where neighborhood watchers…head cooks and bottle washers…dine
With business lunchers…time clock punchers
Mini van drivers, play date supervisors and all out survivors
And that can’t completely define…all that we are
Daughters, wives, mothers and future shining stars
Ordinary Moms doing extraordinary things
12 hour sifts and hawking weddings rings…TV and Social network monitoring
Heading up PTA meetings…Relishing in the most mundane of things
To these unsung hero’s, I sing…for they also have dreams deferred
And Lord knows we deserve…to strut our stuff…be allowed to occasionally get to live it up
While loving ourselves enough…to regularly hit the gym…do yoga or swim
Or run for our lives…and gain peace of mind with every stride
We take…to fill the vacant space…on our wish list
While thanking God for the gift…of motherhood

I get it and they will too! Because words are powerful, they can be our Salvation or Damnation. And what brand wants to really P. off the Mommy Nation? Yes, there is POWER in the pen and the purse! Our wish list could easily become our pissed list! I would like to repost this if possible. Our wish list
