Moms Find Work Using Social Networking To Build Network

Today, Bradi and I were the Guest Bloggers of Bean Chat, hosted by Gevalia Coffee on Twitter. Our Bean Chat-ers wanted to know how to use Social Networking to help you in your job search.

Of course, networking and utilizing the resources (i.e, our Career Coach Julie Cohen) and our national job board is certainly huge on MyWorkButterfly.com. Additionally, you can use blogging as a tool to establish yourself as an expert in your area. Also, if you're looking to "turn your passion into profession," it may be important to establish your personal brand in the marketplace. This can be huge.

The power of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn presents an enormous opportunity for you to create relationships with potential employers, HR folks and/or expanding MyWorkButterfly network (as we have a channel on all three of these general social networks). On Twitter and LinkedIn, you will also find job opportunities. Also, we also "group tweeted" on setting up Google Alerts (which is free and easy to do) and use keyworks such as "Working Moms" "Entrepreneurs" "Work-At-Home Moms" or "WAHMs". Also, when utilizing Twitter, you can gain followers by doing relevant searches on Twitter under "Find People" using keywords that are relevant to your field of interest. Once you find someone who looks like a good fit for you, "Follow Them". Additionally, check and see who they are following to extend your search. Based on the theory, "It takes one to know one" ...people "Following" people you are interested in, are alway potentially of interest. Does that make sense?

I read a blog post this afternoon called, "How to set up social networking for your career" on All Business (a D&B company). It said, "Keep your private life private and separate from your work life. If you need to start two Facebook accounts for this reason, do it! As I said, I have been following someone's business facebook updates and I'm learning a bit too much about their personal life, which to me is unprofessional. "

This is definitely important advice for anyone. Job seekers and working moms, alike.

Remember, on MyWorkButterfly.com, we also have many HR Moms in our community. You can visit our HR Group and see if there are job opportunities available in these companies. Right now, we have national openings for "Work-At-Home" moms at Jos. A Bank. Shortly, we will be bring you flexible friendly jobs at a major health care organization.

Let us know what other questions you may have -- and we're happy to provide you with advice -- on any topic.
