The MindyFinds Blog - For The Fashion Enthusiast In You

Mindy Scheier (me) is a - (gosh this is harder than I thought)- working mom of 2 fab kids/self proclaimed fashionista/5 ft brunette who feels I should have been a 5' 11" red head/wife of dentist-which I LOVE saying/still waiting to be discovered/having some fun while I can! MindyFinds is a fashion forum for rants and raves, style tips and much more. Targeted toward any and all women with a major focus on working moms (g-d love us!), The MindyFinds blog will serve any and all fashion needs or questions you may have! Let’s play and have fun!
Girl Dates

I ran into a dear friend the other day who is a high-powered lawyer and mom of 2 kids. I was outraged to see that she was committing one of the greatest and most severe cardinal sins of fashion…her jeans were too big on her! Before I lost my temper, I asked her – “why o why was she hiding her darling figure under too many yards of denim?” Her eyes softened, and she uttered that she just didn’t have the time to get herself proper fitting jeans. Suddenly my quick wit (ok, so I think I’m funny), clicked into another gear…ala sisterhood of the traveling pants. My friend needed help! So the long standing question of how moms can FIND THE TIME to take care of their “fashion health” was about to get solved….GIRL DATES!

I assimilate it to this…having a work-out partner helps you get to the gym right? Or maybe even a cute trainer (hubba hubba). Someone else is counting on you so you feel obligated. Or de-toxing with a friend (shout out to Bradi and Stacey) helps you stay on track and get through the times of when you want to strangle someone for just one diet coke. This rule applies to your “fashion health” as well.

So back to my story…I immediately offered to my whoa-ing pal with baggy jeans, a helping hand. She practically welled up in tears at the thought. You don’t have to be a fashion expert (like me) you just have to be a friend. Carve out an hour, run to the mall or your favorite store and help out your pal! Getting her there is 75% of the battle. Taking care of you “fashion-self” is always last on the list of any working mom list but having a Girl Date to help out a friend is fun for all.

Here are some fun ideas:

Coffee Clutch with Perks- Most of the dept stores are open until 9 or 10:00 during the week…So after the kiddies are tucked in, grab your girlfriend and have your Girl Date at Bloomies with a Starbucks night cap to celebrate the adventure.

Drinks and Denim- Host a jeans party (sticking with the theme)…cocktails and jeans are always a good mix. There are many jean distributors that offer discounted brand name jeans. (Shoot me an email if you need help planning this- I’m here for you sista!)

Dieter’s Delight- If you are dieting with a pal, set a date that you will celebrate your weight loss by rewarding yourselves with a new pair of jeans (by the by- Loehmann’s has fantastic jeans at fantastic prices!)

Have fun and remember that having poor “fashion health” can lead to anguish mentally and physically so helping a friend shop and play can make those baggy jeans go away!
