The Social Network and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Viral Marketing at its Finest! - Weekly Wings

The movies, “The Social Network” and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” are the most perfectly crafted displays of viral marketing we’ve ever seen (and we don’t mean viral in a STD kind of way). Good viral marketing spreads like wildfire and can grow so immensely, it can in fact seem like a living, breathing thing. Offline marketing, as you know it, is good old word of mouth or buzz.

We are not going to give away too many details about either movie, as tempting as it may be, (go see them- great excuse for a date night or girls’ night out) but here are THREE ways on how YOU can harness viral marketing to build your own personal brand:

  1. Give away something free– a product or a service (Butterfly’s content/membership is free)
  2. Build upon your online networks- Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter and related blogs (Butterfly has a presence on each and communicates externally on a regular basis)
  3. Maximize your resources– link exchange, affiliate programs (ie: Butterfly’s video interviews are uploaded to celebrity Mom Mentor’s site)

While Butterfly is no Facebook giant (although it has been dubbed the “Facebook for Moms” in its niche), nor does it churn out a Wall Street bonus (back in the hay-day), it does engage and thrive on viral marketing - the reason why Butterfly has impacted mothers in 112 countries since its launch in January 2009! Say hello to a few Butterfly members around the globe:

Jacqueline Hodes & Priscila

  1. Adeyinka Ikemefuna who shares, “I was born on the 3rd of Dec. 1977, I read accounting. I am presently working with the Reddington Hospital in Nigeria.”
  2. Jacqueline Hodes from Florida who reveals that she is a, “Partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, based in the firm’s Miami office.
  3. Priscila, from Canada writes, “I am a married, work-at-home-mom of a beautiful 2 year old boy! I specialize in custom wedding invitations, stationary and greeting cards.

Don’t underestimate the power and strength of viral marketing. Study it and create a ripple effect of your own.

Warmly,
