Da da dum…. The dreaded family meeting is generally one that makes your children want to run for the hills. Family meetings are often a crucial time to reconnect, plan a big event, or share time discussing conflicts and concerns. They are necessary for a peaceful household.

Rather than take the traditional approach sitting around a barren table with interrogation light swaying overheard, create an atmosphere of fun and safety.

Have a make your own pizza night as you discuss plans for upcoming holiday. Go for a hike as your kids get the opportunity to vent their frustrations regarding bathroom battles while getting some great exercise as well.

Grab a ball and play catch with the rule being whoever has the ball gets to talk while all others only listen. This ensures everyone gets to have a voice. Stop suddenly for a joke break to break up any tension and allow laughter to enter the board room.

It’s great to have a topic you want to discuss, but try to be avoid being rigid in how the time is spent. Family meetings can mean family fun with a little planning and flexibility.
