Weekly Wings - June 29, 2009 - Remembering ABCs, Moonwalks and our Angel

Terry and I learned that Michael Jackson, the legendary international 80's pop icon, died of a heart attack amidst my
son's birthday party. As the kids caught wind of the news they simply took a brief pause before proceeding to scarf
down their pizza. They don't "know" Michael the way we "know" Michael. Despite his crazy antics and baby balcony wielding ways, his music will be a constant reminder of my carefree youth listening to "Beat It" and other classic 45's on my turntable (my son wouldn't recognize a turntable if it smacked him in the face). My friend Catherine, at the time, even had her very own white glove. I thought she was so cool. During that 80's excess era Michael Jackson blared from every boom box in my town - he was our "Thriller."

What "thrills" us now is learning that the Chief justice of the Canadian Supreme Court is a woman and four of nine
justices there are women. In fact, it was just brought to our attention that half of all law school graduates in the U.S. are women. Know that we, as women and as mothers, continue to make great strides. If you have the urge to put your law degree to good use, ask the moms in the ENTREPRENEUR group if they might need your services. You may not be on the Supreme Court, but you can continue to put your skills to good use.

Lots of new groups have been formed by Butterflies. Think about joining Moms of Kids with Allergies or Mama
Bloggers, “What did you do all day?”, Moms of Austistic Children, The "I Just Got Laid Off Too" Group, or the Moms of New York and the City group. It's a great way to connect and network with like-minded moms. And, meet new mom Samantha Beer who gave birth at age 21 and has a boyfriend that works two jobs! Or, say hello to Hilary Barbour who designs her own jewelry with semi-precious stones. Hilary strongly suggests in her blog that you read the book entitled "Mommy Millionaire"which inspired her on her own journey. Perhaps you have some suggestions for Butterfly mom Joey Lynn Resciniti who is the mom of one daughter, Julia, age 4. Joey quit a deadend job a month before her daughter was born. She's made a few attempts at freelance writing and has interviewed for a position with state government as an entry-level clerk. She is satisfied at home, but looking for the right opportunity
to go back to work.

How have you been transformed by Butterfly? Let us know and you will be entered into our TRANSFORMATION
CONTEST
to win the hot, new Transformer DVD, just out in the movies now! We hope this much anticipated movie helps to take your mind off the death of Michel Jackson and the death of another great 80's icon, who also lost her fight on the same day, mother Farrah Fawcett - who we honored in an earlier edition of Weekly Wings.

Have a great time celebrating independence day. Embrace the independence part.
