My son came home from school just the other day and asked if I could buy him a cell phone. He is eight. He followed up by saying, whining rather, that all of the 5th graders at school have phones. I told him to talk to me when he is in fifth grade. So for the next two years it is my job to expose him to the realities of a world in which each day more and more families go hungry.
On March 8, my son Jack will help me to celebrate International Women's Day to raise awareness about the global food crisis. Around the globe mothers are left wondering where they will find the next meal for their children. You hear that Jack, find their next meal, not their new cell phone!

In celebration of Women's History Month this March we feature Anne Sutherland Fuchs, Chair of NYC's Commission on Women's Issues. The commission was appointed by NYC's Mayor Bloomberg with a goal to focus attention on women's needs. Anne is the
liaison to the community of women in NYC and has helped to develop wonderful initiatives in economic development, childcare, research and health. Her story may be found in Butterfly's "Mentors" section under peers.
We also celebrate the mompreneur this March as we showcase two more inspirational women who believed in themselves and in their concept. Meet Shelly Belly, Owner of Shelly Belly Maternity and Beth Herbst, Founder of stylebakery.com. And, lastly this March, you will not want to miss our interview with Samantha Ettus, best selling author and on-air correspondent. She is frequently seen on the Today Show, The Early Show, The O’Reilly Factor and Inside Edition. She has just launched her own TV show, called "Obsessed TV."
